Get ready for an adventure in Colleen Coble’s latest book in her Sunset Cove series. In this mystery, we follow Kate Mason who has been finding solace in her family’s blueberry barrens. While she was devoted to keeping the barrens thriving, she is forced to find a new source of income.
Kate fixes up her small cottage as a rental and quickly finds herself not only with a tenant but also as the new nanny for two girls. While this seems like the solution to Kate’s financial situation, things take a turn for the worse. The new tenant is a judge whose brother and sister-in-law died in an accident shortly after he received a threat that his family would suffer if he didn't drop a high profile case.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Kate learns that her uncle, who is in prison for murder, has escaped. Added to that, she has a stalker whose sights are on her. Throughout the story, Kate is continually looking over her shoulder.
As you can imagine, there is a lot that goes on in this story. Was it too much? I don’t think so. I enjoyed the suspense and the ways the different situations connected in the story.
Having now read a few of Coble’s books, I felt this book had many of the same characteristics as her other books. 1) A suspenseful plot. 2) Characters with a deep past. 3) A romantic element.
I enjoyed reading this book as it held my attention with the different suspense elements. I think this may be my favorite book in this series.
