I was really excited for a new series from Susan May Warren. After hearing so many wonderful things about her other books, notably the Family, I couldn’t wait to dive into this book.

I was pretty excited to see that Susan has a novella prequel to this book, If Ever I Would Leave You. I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend reading that before this book, if you have the chance, although it isn’t required.

In Wild Montana Skies we read about search and rescue pilot Kacey Fairing who is away on leave in Mercy Falls. Doesn’t the name of this town sound like the place for the perfect Hallmark romance? Kacey had past mistakes, which was the reason she joined the military.

Kacey has a new job waiting for her and a daughter she hasn’t seen very much, just in between deployments. While things seem to be falling into place for a happier life and more time with her daughter, Ben King just happens to be in town.

As both Kacey and Ben are in town, Mercy Falls has to declare a state of emergency due to flash floods. The two are forced to work together to help save lives, but with the personal hurt and history, there is a lot to be discovered in this story.

I found the concept of this story to be very interesting. I haven’t read much about search and rescue and I enjoyed learning more about what they do. Kacey and Ben’s story was also interesting. I found the characters to be relatable and well developed. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.
