About this Book
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series—The Amish of Hart County—with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker.
After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she’s getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn’t too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone—even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she'll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was.
For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called “The Recluse” confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he's misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God’s gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there’s always more to someone than meets the eye.
Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

Shelley Shepard Gray had my heart racing as I couldn’t put down Her Secret! In the first book in Gray’s new series, Hannah Hilty receives a chilling envelope with photos, but these are no ordinary photos–the photos are of Hannah, yes Hannah herself! First, Hannah is Amish, so this is something new for her. Second, the photos are of Hannah alone, including one taken from outside her home that shows her silhouette undressing behind a curtain.
Hannah knows who the stalker has to be, but she has no proof to put an end to it. Hannah is afraid and her family moves to Kentucky to get away from the stalker.
The move brings friction to Hannah’s family as her siblings blame her for uprooting them from their friends and school. Hannah ends up homeschooling her siblings and secrets begin to come from the shadows.
While Hannah has the chance to make a new start in Kentucky, she is still shaken from the stalker and she gets the nickname “The Recluse” making it even harder on her to make friends.
Isaac Troyer, is a young Amish man and many of the girls would like to catch his eye, however they have been unable to. Isaac is neighbors with Hannah and the one responsible for calling her “The Recluse.” As time goes on Isaac gets to know Hannah and begins to understand what she is going through.
Issac was my favorite character in this book as he reminds us of what can happen when we jokingly put a label on someone before we ever get the chance to know them. He also showed us how to welcome others into our community and that we can make mistakes and still end up loving someone in the end.
I really enjoyed this book and didn’t want to put it down. It was a quick read for me, although shorter than many other books I read, I thought the length was perfect. I was transported to the Amish towns and I felt the fear Hannah felt. I felt the pain as the secrets were revealed and her family struggled, and I felt the care and concern of Isaac.
