Get ready for an emotional story as Karen Kingsbury introduces readers to Noah and Emily Carter in When We Were Young. In what seems to be a happily ever after with a life living the dream, we realize that there is a lot more to happiness than a million adoring fans and a social media kind of love.

As Noah begins to become more and more obsessed with their online presence and the adoring fans wanting his attention, his relationship at home becomes strained to the point that he and Emily decide to call it quits. Emily reaches out to her friend Kari Baxter Taylor. I was happy to see Kari in this story as Kingsbury gave me the chance to know her a little more.

While the expanse of time this book covers isn’t very much, a lot happens that had me glued to the pages until the very end. I found this story to be extremely unique in the way Kingsbury approached the pending breakup/divorce with a Charles Dicken’s Scrooge sort of way.

Noah is set to leave in the morning, but when he wakes up things are entirely different. Not in an everything is perfect way, but strange things happen, he has aged and so have his kids!

When We Were Young was a relevant story that had depth and weight to the story, which I appreciated. My heart broke with the characters as I was transported into the story. Kingsbury is a master storyteller, and this book just goes to show it!
